Card Programs
A Card Program groups cards within a Financial Institution and defines which Risk Profile and Challenge Profile applies to those cards.
Default Card Program
When a Financial Institution is created, a default Card Program is automatically provisioned. All transactions are routed through this program unless a more specific assignment is made. You can customise the default Card Program's risk and challenge configuration, or create additional programs as your needs grow.
When to Use Multiple Card Programs
Card Programs are useful when different groups of cards within the same Financial Institution require different authentication behaviour. Common examples:
| Use case | Example |
|---|---|
| Card type | Separate risk rules for debit vs. credit cards |
| Geography | Different challenge methods for different regulatory jurisdictions |
| Demographics | Stricter SCA for high-value or business accounts |
| Selective exemption | A program configured to always accept or always reject specific transactions using a Simple Rule |
Assigning Cards to a Program
A BIN or sub-BIN range can be linked to a Card Program. All cards within that range will use the associated risk and challenge configuration by default.
Structure
Each Card Program holds references to:
| Component | Description |
|---|---|
| Risk Profile | The set of risk rules evaluated to determine whether a transaction proceeds frictionlessly or requires a challenge. |
| Challenge Profile | The challenge method(s) used to authenticate the cardholder if a challenge is required. |
| BIN Ranges | The card ranges whose cards are routed through this program by default. |
